Behind-the-scenes documentary about the making of the 1953 sci-fi classic "The War of the Worlds". Included are interviews with some of the cast and crew and unreleased footage from the film itself.

A young woman, struggling to become a novelist, has her life go into a tailspin. Her first novel is rejected, her non-committal boy friend decides to take a powder, her best friend moves to Mexico for an acting job, and her mother announces that her long presumed dead father is actually a hippie photographer who has come to town to meet her. Sinking into a depression at being a total failure at 28, she starts fantasizing about suicide. In her depths of despair she meets various eccentric characters including a chain-smoking Santa Claus and an obnoxious literary agent. But her belief in herself is only restored when she meets a patient in a hospital where she does volunteer work.

Chicken, a desperate hippie junkie living in a small Spanish village, is finding it difficult to separate fantasy and reality. This isn't helped by the villagers practising magic and child sacrifice, or his involvement with a group of boozy expatriates lost in their own dreams and regrets.

Originally broadcast in October 1938 as a Halloween prank, the program famously triggered mass panic across the United States, as its format—presented as a series of live news bulletins—proved uncannily convincing.Absorbing the visual language of the contemporary media environment, W:A:R:O:F:T:H:E:W:O:R:L:D:S constructs a peculiar media-archaeological artifact. AI-generated videos, drone footage, feature films, video games, and online fragments converge with the original radio broadcast, creating a layered and unstable field of perception.
